Assistant Professor of Spanish (603964)
The Department of Global Languages and Cultures at Northern Arizona University, an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position beginning in August 2019. We are seeking an individual with a background in 20th and 21st century literatures of Spain and/or Latin America to enhance a dynamic program in Spanish. Experience and/or interest in one or more of the following areas may also be a plus: Trans-Atlantic Studies, Cultural Studies, Film Studies, New Media Studies, Mexican literature and/or literature of the US-Mexico Borderlands, Spanish for heritage speakers and/or Spanish for special purposes.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of Latin American and/or Spanish literature, culture, and language courses at the undergraduate level. The candidate will also have the opportunity to teach in our Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish program and to contribute to a growing Spanish Heritage Language Program. Additional duties include advising Spanish majors, minors and graduate students. A clear research agenda in the field of literature or related field is expected, including peer-refereed publications, conference presentations, and relevant professional activities. Furthermore, s/he will be expected to develop and enhance appropriate curricular offerings and supervise and assist student research. – Ph.D. in Spanish or related field completed by August 2019
– 2 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level
– Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English
– Ability to teach literature and culture courses from Spain and/or Latin America
– Commitment to working with diverse populations
– Experience in teaching Peninsular and/or Mexican literature
– Evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students
– Evidence of potential for or a record of excellence in scholarly contributions to the profession
