The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) at Christopher Newport University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position in Spanish, effective August 2019. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. Preference will be given to a teacher-scholar who specializes in Golden Age/early modern Spain. A secondary specialization in second language acquisition, ESL methodology (in support of our MAT program in ESL), or service learning is highly desirable. Applicants are required to possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish. The faculty member?s primary responsibilities will include teaching courses within the departmental major program, conducting professional development to remain current in the field of specialization, and engaging in service at the department and university levels. The department is central to the University?s curriculum and mission, and it prides itself on its collegiality and cross-disciplinary outreach. The nominal teaching load for non-tenure-track appointments is 4-4. The Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of lecturer. Candidates with a master?s degree may be considered for appointment at the rank of instructor. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.
