The Department of Spanish and Portuguese seeks applicants for Lecturer II/III at the University of New Mexico (UNM) beginning August 2019. Responsibilities include teaching and assisting with coordination of the Spanish as a Second Language Program (2,400 students approx.). The normal teaching load for a faculty member in this position is 4/4 with the possibility of course reductions for the assignment of administrative/coordination duties. Duties include course design, assessment, evaluation, teacher training, curricular alignment, and mediation. Candidates must show evidence of teaching experience, familiarity with on-line teaching, and knowledge of ACTFL standards. Candidates should articulate a theoretically-grounded approach to language teaching. Also desirable are evidence of success with curriculum development and assessment, experience with heritage learners, teaching with technology, and/or Spanish for the professions. Administrative, interpersonal and communication skills are critical for this position. Competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications for Lecturer II:
– M.A. in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or related field by Spring 2019
– Two years experience teaching Spanish at an institution of higher education
Minimum Qualifications for Lecturer III
– Ph.D. in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or related field by Spring 2019
